144 CrPc promulgated along Indo-Bangla border

SILCHAR, Sept 4: The District Magistrate of Cachar has promulgated prohibitory orders under 144 CrPc, restricting the movement of borderline residents along Indo-Bangla border in order to preempt the entry of extremists and cross border crimes. According to the notification, movement of people within one km of the international border has been prohibited from 8 pm to 5 am. The restriction is also effective along the Surma river and its near about areas.
It has also been notified that nobody can move with boat on Surma river without the licence of gaon panchayat duly endorsed by the CEO of ZP. However, the Circle Officer of Katigorah could issue permit to lessees of licenced fishermen and local residents for their movement.
The notification further says that without necessary permission, nobody can transport essential commodities like rice, sugar, kerosene, etc. by using rickshaw, cart and other means of transportation. The employees of the Central and State Government are exempted from this prohibitory order which will remain effective for two months from yesterday. (The Sentinel)
