PGM and NSRSP hold separate I-Day functions

SILCHAR, Aug 16: Along with the official functions to commemorate the Independence Day celebration, Pratibadi Gana Mancha (PGM) and Nagarik Swartha Raksha Sangram Parishad (NSRSP) in their own way observed the historical and glorious occasion, articulating the mass anger and resentment against the discrimination and injustice to Barak Valley by the State Government. While the Mancha chose for its observance the place around the statue of Khudiram Basu, the great freedom fighter, the Parishad held its function at Narsingtola ground. The turn out was quite impressive at both the venues and the leaders as well as citizens from different walks of life who addressed both the assemblies called upon people in general to be prepared for greater struggle ahead in order to achieve their constitutional and democratic rights. The significant aspect of the celebration by the Mancha was the oath taken by hundreds of men and women at the foot of Khudiram Basu in blood-soaked writing, pledging to remain united and to continue the fight for freedom from discrimination, dispossession and deprivation, a sad tale of Barak Valley.
