Five detained for murder

SILCHAR, Aug 1: Tension and terror runs high in the industrial township of Panchgram as unidentified miscreants sprayed bullets at the car of a bank manager that led to the death of the security guard of the manager. The incident happened on Saturday noon, but till Sunday evening, police could not trace the assailants. Sources said, Lalchumaya, assistant manager of Badarpur branch of the State Bank India hired a Maruti van and went to Panchgram to inspect the ATM counter which had some technical problems. Suddenly the car was stopped by a youth near BVCL cement factory at Badarpurghat and started pumping bullets. Sources said, the miscreant fired three rounds injuring Nikhil Ranjan Nath, the security guard, Lalchumaya and driver Ahad Uddin. They were brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and Nikhil Ranjan succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, Mahesh Chand Sarmah, SP, Hailakandi told The Sentinel on Sunday that the police had detained four Home Guards and one driver and interrogation was going on.
