DYFI blocks highway

SILCHAR, Aug 3: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists and
supporters today blocked National Highway 44 and 54 for one hour from 12 noon to 1 pm in support of their 5 point charter of demands. The blockade disrupted normal flow of vehicular traffic across the valley. A DYFI leader described the protest - blockade as a part of their all-India agitation.
DYFI has called upon the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to initiate definite time
bound action plan to fill up 1.72 lakh vacancies.
Among other demands were the outcry for repairing and improving the deplorable roads, highways, bridges and culverts in the valley.
Referring to the Rs.1 thousand crore scam in North Cachar Hills, now Dima Hasao, the Federation has pressed for thorough probe into all the state departments by CBI. (SENTINELASSAM)
