Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Bithika Dev

SILCHAR, July 19: A non-bailable arrest warrant has been issued by the Silchar Court against Bithika Dev in connection with a lawsuit (Under Tribes Protection from Persecution Act) as she remained absent from the court when the trial was on. However after explaining the reason for her absence, she got conditional relief from the issued warrant.
The sensational judgement passed by the subdivision judicial Magistrate of Silchar caused excitement amongst the public in the town.
Other ascused in the case after Bithika Dev are, two employees of Silchar Municipality– Hiranyabijoy Bhattacharjee and Sashi Dutta, ADC BC Nath and settlement officer NK Dev Nath.
All the four got bail after initial recognizance and submitting a fine of Rs 5,000 in the Court.
Sources said, on November 28, 2007, the Silchar Municipality damaged three-bigha of the graveyard belonging to the Rongmai Nagas and seized its properties in Meherpur area of Silchar in presence of a district Magistrate.
An allegation, as such, was brought against Bithika Dev, the then chairperson of Silchar Municipality, ADC BC Nath, the two employees of Municipality and settlement officer NK Dev Nath.
The case was registered on December 14, 2007, by the Court. ADC, BC Nath and Settlement officer N K Dev Nath appeared in the court on the dates fixed by the court but Bithika remained absent and on this ground, a non-bailable warrant was issued against her. (Source - The Sentinel)
